Entusiasmante ultima manche ai pre mondiale del monte cucco.
Oggi le condizioni meteo hanno messo a dura prova soprattutto l'organizzazione. Sul decollo ha iniziato a piovere pochi minuti dopo la partenza e lungo i percorso ci sono stati alcuni rovesci sparsi che pero' non hanno mai messo a rischio la sicurezza dei piloti, con i direttori di gara sempre attenti all'evoluzione della giornata.
Il percorso di oggi ha visto i piloti decollare dal Cucco verso le 14 per dirigersi prima su Colfiorito e successivamente a Scheggia. Meta a Sigillo.
Ls manche si e' dimostrata azzeccata ed e' stato un successo con oltre 100 piloti a meta: i primi 30 atterrati nel giro di 10 minuti. Uno spettacolo emozionante.
Le classifiche non sono definitive ma il podio di oggi dovrebbe vedere primo Jeff O'brien (USA) seguito da Manfred Ruhmer (AUT) e dal nostro Cristian Ciech (ITA).
Ruhmer si aggiudica quindi i premondiali 2010 con due vittorie e due secondi posti in quattro gare.
Grandissima l'Italia che con una prova corale perfetta si aggiudica la classifica a squadre.
Alcuni dati statistici ancora non definitivi: 150 piloti, 4 manche, 36000 km volati, oltre 1000 ore di volo, zero incidenti

Fantastic the last task at the preworld's today.
The weather conditions were challenging above all for the organisation. At take off it began to rain a few minutes after the take off and along the course set were scattered showers that however did not put at risk the safety of the pilots, but caused some anxiety to teh Director of the comp who had to keep a close watch on the development of the weather.
The task today saw the pilots taking off at 2 pm to go first to Colfiorito and then to Scheggia.
The task was on mark and successful with more than 100 pilots in goal.
The first 30 pilots arrived all together within 10 minutes. A fantastic show.
The final results are not yet confirmed but today's podium will see in first place Jeff O'Brien followed by Manfred Ruhmer and Cristian Ciech.
Ruhmer has won the pre-worlds with two wins and second places out of 4
Brilliant Italy that with a great group effort wins the teams.
More data, not yet confirmed: 150 pilots, 4 tasks, 36000 km flown, 1000 hours of flight, 0 accidents

La terza manche del pre mondiale e' stata sicuramente la piu' dura fin qui disputata: le termiche a intermittenza e le quote minori dei giorni scorsi (solo 1500 metri) hanno impegnato a fondo i piloti.
Il percorso si snodava tra il Cucco, Esanatoglia, Fabriano e atterraggio a Esanatoglia, per poco meno di 100 km.
Solo una trentina i piloti che sono riusciti a completarlo.
Primo al traguardo Zac Majors (USA) che ha preceduto di 10 secondi il solito Ruhmer (AUT). Terzo, un po' staccato, il nostro Alex Ploner (ITA)che continua la sua avvincente rimonta.
Per domani la meteo e' incerta ma l'organizzazione e' lanciata e fino a domenica ne vedremo ancora tante.

The third task of the Preworlds was defintely the most difficult set: the intermittent thermals and lower altitudes than the last days (at only 1500 mt) challenged all pilots.
The course wound its way between Cucco, Esanatoglia, Fabriano with landing in Esanatoglia for 91 km.
Only 30 pilots arrived in goal.
First across the line was Zac Majors (USA) that beat for 10 seconds Manfred Ruhmer (AUT). Third, a little behind, was our Alex Ploner that continues his climb up the classifications.
Tomorrow the weather is uncertain but the organisation is determined and there is time until Sunday to set more extraodinary tasks.

Si e' appena svolto il briefing con i team leaders.
La situazione meteo e' complicata: vento da nord e base molto bassa. Si stanno analizzando le ultime informazioni meteo e l'agibilita' di decolli alternativi.
Alcuni unsafe report sono stati inoltrati per l'ultima boa della seconda task, in quanto alcuni piloti vi sono arrivati bassi e non c'erano molti atterraggi vicino.
Ci sono poi state alcune richieste di chiarimento in merito al CTR di Peruggia, che sta facendo ammattire i piloti, in particolare quelli con strumentazione che non supporta la cartografia degli spazi aerei.
E' stato deciso di assegnare ai primi 30 piloti in classifica una "priority area" dove aprire il delta in decollo per poter agevolmente decidere quando decollare

Some unsafe report were presented by pilots about last turnpoint on task 2: they get it very low and with no landings.
Many questions about Perugia CTR: it is making crazy many pilots because of its strange shape and different altitudes. The pilots without airspace option in their instrument are a bit concerned about this.

Un'altra grandiosa giornata di volo sul monte Cucco.
Si e' svolta regolarmente la seconda manche dei pre mondiali di deltaplano, partita verso le 13 dal decollo sud del Cucco, la gara ha portato i piloti a sud fino alla piana di Colfiorito, poi a nord verso Catria e linea di meta a Sigillo.
140 circa i piloti partiti. Condizioni abbastanza facili a detta di Cristian Ciech: 2/3 ms il valore medio delle termiche, vento debole e quote massime intorno ai 1800 m.
Solo sulla prima boa la situazione era delicata e bisognava stare attenti a non trovarsi troppo bassi. Per il resto la gara e' filata abbastanza liscia e infatti a quanto pare circa 80 piloti hanno completato il percorso.
La verifica delle tracce GPS e' ancora in corso ma la classifica provvisoria vede nuovamente vincitore Manfred Ruhmer (AUT) giunto sul traguardo con 3 minuti di vantaggio su un assatanato Alex Ploner (ITA) che non vedeva l'ora di dimenticare la brutta giornata di ieri. Terzo un altro italiano: Elio Cataldi.
La classifica generale non e' ancora disponibile ma il nome del primo non pare in discussione, piu' complessa la situazione per le posizioni di rincalzo.
Per domani la meteo sembra un po' meno favorevole, ma si fara' di tutto per concedere ai piloti un'altra avvincente sfida nei cieli dell'Umbria

Another great day of flying at mt Cucco.
The second task went well at the Preworlds, taking off at 1pm from the south take off.
The task set today took the pilots to the south to the plane of Colfiorito, then north toward Catria with landing at Sigillo.
140 pilots took part. Weather conditions were easy, according to Cristina Ciech. 2/3 ms average the thermals, weak winds and maximum altitudie of 1800 m.
Only at the first turnpoint was there difficulty and pilots had to be careful not to fly at low altitude. For the rest of the task it was quite easy and untl now about 80 pilots have completed the full course.
We are still checking the GPS downloads so provisionally it seems that once again "the Man" Manfred Ruhmer arrived first with 3 minutes of advantage on Alex Ploner that couldn't wait to put yesterday's task behind him.
Third in arrival was another Italian: Elio Cataldi.
The final classification of the day is still not confirmed but there is little doubt about the leader, more difficult is to ascertain the 2nd and 3rd places.
Tomorros the weather codnitions semm less favorable but the staff will do their best to give to the pilots another challenging day in the skys over Umbria

Si e' appena svolto il briefing mattutino presso il centro operativo e sono state affisse le classifiche provvisorie. Non ci sono state sorprese dal controllo delle boe ma una quindicina di piloti hanno ricevuto un "warning" per aver sforato nello spazio aereo dell'aeroporto di Perugia: poche decine di metri comunque.
Alberto ha poi esposto la situazione meteo prevista che vi riassumo:
- piu' sole e meno cumuli di ieri
- quote simili a ieri
- termiche intorno ai 2 m/s, ma inizieranno un po' tardi
- inversione marcata intorno ai 2000 m
La novita' principale e' la rotazione dei venti da sud ovest. Saranno deboli ma annunciano purtroppo un peggioramento per domani.

Oggi la manche e' stata disputata regolarmente. La corretta analisi meteo ha permesso al direttore di gara e alla commissione piloti di assegnare una task perfettamente centrata: poco piu' di 100 km tra il Monte Cucco, Fabriano, Gubbio e l'atterraggio di Sigillo.
I decolli sono iniziati alle 12 mentre lo start alla gara e' stato fissato in 3 gate distinti: 13.40, 14 e 14.20 per scremare il gruppo ed evitare affollamenti.
All'inizio le condizioni hanno fatto un po' lavorare i piloti perche' le termiche erano deboli. Durante tutta la gara le quote non sono mai state superiori ai 2000 metri ma le ascendenze erano piuttosto diffuse e questo ha permesso a circa 80 piloti di completare l'intero percorso.
I primi sono arrivati a meta in gruppo poco dopo le 16 (41 kmh la media oraria del vincitore). Sono stati contati oltre 30 atterraggi nel giro di 15 minuti.
Presso il centro operativo di Sigillo e' ancora in corso il download delle tracce GPS di tutti i piloti (consultabile in tempo reale su www.cucco2011.org), ma a meno di improbabili sorprese il vincitore di giornata e' Manfred Ruhmer (austriaco trapiantato in quel di Varese), seguito da Jonny Durand (AUS) e Andre Wolf (BRA). Primo degli italiani il trentino Cristian Ciech, sesto assoluto. Fortissima Julia Kucherenko, prima delle donne e fuori dai primi dieci posti per soli 4 punti. Da notare che nei primi 11 posti sono rappresentate 11 nazioni differenti!!!
Entusiasti i commenti dei piloti in atterraggio: bella gara, belle condizioni, bella zona di volo.
Fa notizia in negativo la brutta prova del campione del mondo di carica, l'alto atesino Alex Ploner, che e' atterrato dopo soli 40 km ed e' ora molto indietro in classifica: per lui gara in salita.

Today the task went ahead without problems. A correct analysis of the weather allowed the director, Francesco Rinaldi, and the task committe to assign a task perfectly suited, little more than 100 km between Monte Cucco, Fabriano, Gubbio and with landing in Sigillo.
Take off began at 12.00 while the start gate was fixed in 3 different times: 1.40 pm, 2 pm, 2.20 pm so as to spread out the group and avoid crowding.
At the start of the task the pilots had to work a bit as the thermals were weak.During the tassk the altitude reached was never over 2000 m but the rising thermals were to be found everywhere which allowed over 80 pilots to complete the entire course.
The first group arrived at the landing just after 4pm (the averaga speed of the winner 41 km per hour). About 30 pilots followed landing within 15 minutes.
At this moment in the headquarters the downloading of the pilot's GPS is taking place but we can safely say, without any last minute surprise, that today's winner is Manfred Ruhmer followed by Jonny Durand (AUS) and Andre Wolf (BRA). Great result by Julia Kucherenko, 12th place!!! 11 differente nations in the first 11 places.
Enthusiastic the comments of the pilots at landing, great task, good conditions, beautiful flying zone.
Bad news for the present world title holder, Alex Ploner landed after just 40 km and has now slid down in the classifications.

Purtroppo la meteo (leggi nubi e vento) non e' abbastanza buona da consentire lo svolgimento della task.
La giornata si sta lentamente rimettendo e forse qualcuno riuscira' anche a volare nel pomeriggio, ma non ci sono i tempi ne' le condizioni per far disputare la prima manche.

I temporali di ieri hanno lasciato una situazione di alta umidita'. Il minimo depressionario si sta spostando verso est piu' lentamente di quanto vorremmo e la situazione e' ancora incerta a causa dei forti venti che lo seguono.
Attualmente abbiamo la base circa 300 m sotto al decollo e circa 60/70 kmh di vento da nord est.
E' stato deciso di aspettare fino alle 11 per vedere se la situazione migliora abbastanza per permettere una task. Questo e' l'orario limite per riuscire a organizzare una task oggi. Incrociamo le dita

Yesterday's thuderstorms has resulted in high humidity. The movement of the depression away from this area towards teh east was slow and the conditions are still uncertain with strong winds.
Now cloud base is 300 m below the take off and there is 60/70 kmh of winds from the north east

La giornata introduttiva del pre mondiale di deltaplano “Monte Cucco 2010” sta volgendo al termine.
Entro le 19 al centro operativo, presso il palazzetto dello sport di Sigillo, passeranno 148 piloti in rappresentanza di 30 nazioni (compresi Australia, Brasile, Russia e Giappone). Devono effetuare la registrazione alla gara: caricamento delle boe sul GPS, verifica casco e dotazioni di sicurezza, ritiro pass e omaggi degli sponsor.
Alle 20 seguirà il briefing di sicurezza del direttore di gara Francesco Rinaldi, che illustrerà ai partecipanti tutti gli aspetti della competizione indispensabili per affrontare la gara nel miglior modo possibile.
Nel frattempo si e' provveduto all'allestimento finale dei decolli con la preparazione dei box di apertura (ampie zone di prato in cui i piloti monteranno i propri mezzi prima della gara) e corsie di decollo.
Domani poi si comincerà a fare sul serio: decollo previsto del monte Cucco verso le 12 per una manche che potrebbe anche essere sugli 80/100 km (i dettagli saranno decisi all'ultimo momento in base alle previsioni della giornata). Oggi la meteo e' stata brutta per volare, cosi' molti hanno approfittato degli ampi spazi del palazzetto per aprire le ali al coperto e provvedere alle ultime regolazioni in vista della gara.
Il trofeo 2010 e' un test-event, ovvero una prova in vista dei mondiali che si svolgeranno qui nel 2011 ma non per questo i piloti sono meno agguerriti, anzi: lotteranno certamente col coltello tra i denti per fregiarsi del titolo di “pre campiona mondiale” :)
E' anche presente uno steward della FAI (Federazione Aeronautica Internazionale) che verifica tutti gli aspetti dell'organizzazione e ne riferira' al consiglio federale a fine manifestazione.
Il team organizzativo peraltro e' molto esperto e rodato da anni di eventi di portata internazionale. Grazie al supporto di comune, enti locali e sponsor, ha predisposto tutto per garantire, oltre alle migliori condizioni di gara, anche un piacevole soggiorno a piloti e accompagnatori: ogni sera sono previsti ritrovi conviviali e attività volte a far conoscere la grande offerta turistica che Umbria e Marche rappresentano.

The first day of the preworlds hangliders in nearly at the end. Before 7 pm at the sport's hall fo Sigillo will pass 150 pilots, representing 30 nations including Australia, Brasil, Russia and Japan.
They must register their participation in the comp, upload their GPS with the coordinates of the turning points, have their helmets checked for safely precautions and pick up their car passes and gadget bags.
At 8 pm there will follow a security brienfing from che comp's director Francesco Rinaldi that will inform the pilots of all the most important points of the comp.
At the same time they are preparing at the take off the lanes and rigging up areas.
Tomorrow starts the serious business:take off expected from Mount Cucco around 12 for a task that could be for 80/100 km (the exact details will b deceided tomorrow depending on the weather conditions).
Today the weather wasn't good for flying, so many pilotstook advantage of the time and space in the sport's hall to open their hang/gliders and make some last minute adjustments. The pre-world's 2010 is a test-event for the next year's world comp that will be held here but this doesn't mean that it won't be combatative: most certainly they will fight to the last to win the title of the pre-worlds.
Also present is a steward of F.A.I. that is here to check that all the work of the organization is in line with the F.A.I.'s regulations.
The organisation team is expert and experienced with many past international comps under their belt, tried, tested and proved. Thanks to the support of the local Council, Administration and Sponsers who have contributed, not only to improve the conditions of the comp, but also to provide a pleasant stay for the pilots and tehir families.
Every evening there is an offer, parties, beer festivals, dinners and activities to make known the many varied touristic excursions and beauty spots that Umbria and Marche offer
